I have seen zombies eat people in a number of different places on The Walking Dead. None of those actions stayed with me in my mind, or in my dreams. However, Matthew Weiner came up with something more insidious to remain in my mind. Actually if Don Draper knew zombies existed, he would wish one would eat him at this present moment:
After 17 months off the air, the show is back with its languid storytelling and retro feel. Mad Men finds itself in 1966 and I can’t help recalling these classic lyrics as the civil rights movement knocks on the door on Sterling, Draper, Cooper, and Pryce:
Come gather ’round people Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters Around you have grown
And accept it that soon You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you Is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’
For a more up-to-date version of Dylan’s song, I suggest Flogging Molly’s Celtic-flavoured version:

In 5 days our favourite dysfunctional fantasy characters come back to HBO. Unlike Mad Men, Game of Thrones returns in a timely fashion with a crop of new, to TV viewers, characters as the war vibes amp up to a full-blown conflict. During last season, I would read James Hibberd’s hilarious recaps on the Entertainment Weekly website. It’s a bit like watching the episode with someone providing commentary. Does anyone else think 5 days until the start feels like 5 years?
From old favourites to a new one…
After standing around in my Netflix queue, I finally saw Justified starring the underrated Timothy Olyphant. Justified starts with US Marshal Raylan Givens giving a gun thug 24 hours to get out of Miami. The thug keeps talking over his dinner, until he pulls his gun, then Raylan shoots the man dead. The action leads to reassignment to the East Kentucky office, in a sense putting Raylan back home after vowing never to come back. From the first episode the intelligent scripts and fine performances had me hooked. In fact season 2 turned out to me a much-lauded season with Olyphant earning a best actor Emmy last year. (Margo Martindale, an actress I have seen in lots of television earned a best supporting actress Emmy.)
Problem.
Season 1 is on Netflix and season 2 is nowhere to be found. (At least through the channels I feel comfortable using.) After clapping my hands with glee over getting FX Canada, I discovered Justified is not even shown on the new channel. As usual Canadians get a pale version of what Americans get on their screens. After watching the season 1 finale, I have to know what happens next and how bad is Mags Bennett? Justified also began showing season 1 on Canada’s Showcase channel right after Lost Girl.
Werewolves, succubi, and US Marshals oh my…
