Listen.
Do you hear them?
Their voices, like echos, fill your spirit.
Kill your spirit.
Their go-aways, love you nots, you can’ts.
Their refusals, rejections, rebuffs.
You weren’t good enough.

Listen.
Do you hear his lies?
You heard them then, and buried your head.
Buried the dead.
His excuses, his stories, his plan B’s.
His partial admittance, his final exit.
You weren’t good enough.

Listen.
Do you hear them?
Their voices, like echos, fill your spirit.
Fill your spirit.
Their newborn cries, love you mommys, we cans.
Their laughter, their summer squeals, their evening yawns.
They were good enough.

Listen.
Do you hear you?
You said get up, draw a line.
Cross the line.
You said you could. You did.
You said it loud enough for them to hear.
You are good enough.

Listen.
In the days you feel unloved,
love yourself.
In the days you feel unworthy,
value yourself.
