Johnny Clegg passed away from Pancreatic Cancer today. I bought the cassette single, yes that was a thing, for the track. I played it on repeat nearly 24 years ago, the day my nephew was born. Clegg wrote this song for one of his children, one of many international hits with Jalukka and Savuka.

Thank you so much for this beautiful post and article on Johnny Clegg, He opened so many doors for different cultures to come together and dance as one. I studied apartheid in college as a political science major and South Africa was one of the hotbed of countries we studied. I too had and still keep cassettes from the 1980’s. Wow so moving and he will be greatly missed.
