In 2008 I did something crazy. No, I didn’t cause the banks to crash and send us all spiralling into a near, economic abyss. I said ‘crazy’ not ‘insane’. The nutty thing I did was try out NaNoWriMo for the first time. Those not familiar with the letters, it stands for National Novel Writing Month. Every November people try to write 50,000 words in 30 days. The victory is reaching the mark. Call NaNo the fire lit under many asses to get moving. Well, I decided to give it a go during the busiest term in the Library Technician program. On top of six classes, churning out assignments in each, I decided to attempt writing a 50,000 word story.
Best thing I ever did.
I have not made it to 50,000 words. I do have raw materials to keep going further. My short term goal simply involves writing. After feeling tired of feeling frozen, I had to push myself out. 2008 sounded like a good a time as any. Well, I decided to push even further:
Welcome to NaBloPoMo.
It stands for National Blogging Posting Month. Once again it’s in November. Why? Take a look outside; It’s getting darker and colder. What did people do during those nights, snow on the ground, the harvest canned and preserved. They told stories. They told stories about relatives, read to one another, and sang. It kept people going and connected. Writing kept me connected. After getting assignments done, attending classes, and now heading to work the time came to make sure I did something enjoyable. I enjoy writing.
For the month of November it’s a post a day. The good news? I already have a few things going. While NaNoWriMo produces a draft, at least in NaBloMo something gets published. I also do something else other than watch Netflix all the time. In order for me to post something every day, I have to diversify. Only so much television nerdiness to produce.
Yup, it’s crazy. It will make one heck of a ride.
I look forward to reading your blogs! My NaBloWriMo was last month. After posting 31 Scary October blog posts, I think I will concentrate on reading more this month – more blogs, more books. Good luck with your challenge. 🙂
