Last Friday, Creed opened in theatres marking the new chapter in the Rocky series. This time, Sylvester Stallone turns mentor to Michael B. Jordan playing the son of Appollo Creed. A new variation on the classic theme, among the many hat tips in the movie, plays as part of the score.
The original theme plays on runner’s playlists as they do hills or climb stairs imitating Rocky Balboa’s famous training scene. It’s the underdog’s theme, and it still connects nearly 40 years after it first played in theatres.
So this is for the runners, the students entering the home stretch into exams and final assignments, those needed a musical hand up, and for the countless people in retail putting the boxing gloves on their psyches as they enter the Christmas rush bout.
